What To Bring CCW

Firearms & Ammunition Requirements

Please bring the following items for your CCW qualification:

Firearms

  • All firearms you plan to train with and/or add to your CCW permit.

  • Each firearm must be safe, functional, and ready for qualification.

Magazines

  • Three (3) magazines per firearm.

Ammunition

  • 300–500 rounds of ammunition total.

    • Approximately 250 rounds for practice, skill review, and preparation.

    • Approximately 30–50 rounds per firearm for qualification.

Qualification Expectations

CCW qualification is a proficiency evaluation. Students are expected to arrive with the ability to safely handle their firearm and successfully complete the qualification prior to attending the qualification session.

If additional training is needed to build foundational shooting skills, we recommend completing an appropriate firearms fundamentals or private instruction course before attending CCW qualification.

Holster & Gear

  • Strong-side, Outside-the-Waistband (OWB) holster

    • Recommendation: Kydex Holster (* No Serpa Holsters)

  • Sturdy belt – must support holster and magazines

  • Magazine pouches (optional but recommended)

Clothing

  • CCW, Every Day Clothing

  • General: Long hair, braided or tied back

  • Tops: Fitted athletic long-sleeve or quarter-zip

    • Closed-top shirt (avoid V-necks or low-cut tops for safety) / Lightweight shooting shirt or performance polo

    • Layers weather dependent

    • Where appropriate Supportive sports bra

  • Bottoms:

    • Comfortable tactical-style pants (e.g., 5.11 or similar) with cargo pockets for extra ammo

    • Jeans

    • Stretch jeans, tactical pants, or performance joggers

  • Avoid

    • Loose scarves

    • Dangly jewelry

    • Low-cut tops (recoil + movement = awkward)

    • Anything too tight in the shoulders

  • Closed-toe shoes with good traction

    • Athletic sneakers or trail shoes with solid grip

    • Lightweight hiking shoes also work

  • Brimmed hat for sun protection

Safety Equipment

  • Eye protection (ANSI-rated shooting glasses)

  • Electronic hearing protection (must be amplified)

    • Recommendation: Howard Leight, Walker’s, or equivalent

Comfort & Essentials

  • Sunscreen

  • Water & snacks (hydration is critical)

  • Notepad, pen, and highlighter (or use a cell phone for notes)
